Laptop Vents/Overheating Issues?

First, Sorry for the silly question. I have ASUS K42F VX308D Laptop. It has cooling vent (with Fan) on left side and some vents openings on the bottom. One for CPU, one for memory devices, one for motherboard, and other one is for HDD. Now, when i use it on my bed, i used to put it on hard covered book so that left side cooling vents are open to exhaust air. But the book covered one of the vents located bottom of the laptop. Is it necessary to remain open all the vents at the bottom of it? If i constantly do the same thing, will it face an overheating issues?

First, thats not a silly question at all. I also worry about my laptop overheating all the time that I eventually downloaded a program to tell me if it ever get over-heated too much than it should normally. The program I have is called SpeedFan and u can easily google & download it or see if another program better suits ur laptop. Anyways, as to ur question, I would recommend keeping the vents completely open, and like u said, always put something hard underneath the laptop. By the way practically all laptops have some sort of small pillars or “legs”, typically four, to raise them a bit off the hard surface they’re placed on. make sure you’re laptop is landing on all four all the time. This way I’m sure all the vents will be perfectly open and not blocked Hope this helped !!!
